7/19/26 - Grazie Mille, Como

Day two in Como was designed for a more relaxing vibe. We slept in a bit, cleaned up the Airbnb, and packed up our backpacks for the day.

We opted for a more savory breakfast at La Pasta Taverna. I went for a simple order this time and got the fettuccine with tomato sauce and meatballs.

Best plate of pasta I’ve ever had.

After the meal, the waiter asked if we wanted limoncello. Not knowing what it was and fearing another extra charge, we all started shaking our heads and saying no thank you. Apparently, he thought that was funny and said, "No, no, it’s gratis," so we agreed.

Our waiter brought out the limoncello and set the table with some shot glasses, so we each hesitantly poured a shot, tapped it on the table, and took it. Unfortunately, after further research, we learned that limoncello is a traditional Italian “digestif” commonly SIPPED after meals.

We don't think he noticed. You live and you learn.

On our daily hunt for post-meal gelato, we passed a man decked out in a Google Maps Street View get-up so please check back in a couple of weeks for our appearance at 45.81045° N, 9.08322° E.

While wandering around the city, some of the roads were closed off for the Como City Triathlon Prestige, based in Villa Olmo. We saw some of the Swiss women racing the 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run!

One of our favorite activities is participating in grocery tourism. It’s such a great way to learn about the place you’re staying in - it’s cheap, easy to access, full of options, and you get to see what the locals are buying, not just the fancy foods advertised in restaurants.

Italy’s grocery stores smelled of ripe, fresh fruit and cheese. They had a better variety of packaged biscuits and crackers than London, and half of the square footage was dedicated to cheese and meats.

We spent some time in the shade admiring the lake before venturing into the city to catch our bus to the Milan airport. I got my last taste of Italian airport pasta and am back on the plane home now!

We will be back on our honeymoons :)

Love,

Megan
