05/24/26 - FlixBus to Bath

Image
We had such a fun trip to Bath this past weekend! Our day started out with a painfully early 5 a.m. wake-up call and a quick Uber ride to the bus station after we realized the Tube wasn't running yet. Oops. We hopped on the FlixBus and were off! Between naps, the views from the bus were so charming. We drove through the town of Chippenham and saw lots of sheep along the way! Our first stop in Bath was the Roman Baths (Tip: buy your tickets online ahead of time!). We got to explore the museum. It was cool to learn more about how sacred the baths were for the Romans. The tour explained how the Romans would exercise, bathe in oil, and then alternate between hot saunas and cold plunges before entering the bath. The rooms were even built with special channels beneath the floors to create heated floors.  Heated floor system Ancient coins recovered from the bath Bath Abbey was our next stop. Stunning! We grabbed lunch at this cute sandwich shop called La Baguette, where I tried a chicken,...

05/23/26 - Parliament Tour and My First Queue!

Image
My British Life in Business class took a tour of Parliament this past week. It was fascinating to learn about all the traditions that are still practiced there hundreds of years later.  One example is the House of Commons: the floor has two red lines placed between the governing and opposing party's benches that run exactly two sword lengths apart...a historic safety precaution. Most of the places prohibited photos, but I managed to snap a few:   On another note, I've been hearing a lot about how much British people love their queues. I'm proud to say I officially joined my first one today - AND I was the first in line. Magnolia Bakeries hosted its famous banana pudding pop-up at the OWO, so after class, I walked over and hopped in line. It was a 45 minute wait in the blistering heat wave, but it was completely worth it (I'm already through my two large tubs). Love, Megan

05/22/26 - A Day Trip to Oxford and a Late Train Home

Image
Oxford: a city steeped in rich academia, historic English pubs, Harry Potter vibes, and, of course, Oxford students. These were the main factors taken into consideration during our 3 a.m. hunt for train tickets there. I've found this to be a recurring theme - my friends and I all huddled around the coffee table in the dimly lit kitchen, fighting sleep and clacking away on our keyboards, determined to find the cheapest transportation to our next adventure. The morning of the trip got off to a rocky start when only half the group was seated on the train at 10:55 a.m. with the doors closing promptly at 11 a.m. We were saved from our worries when, out of the corner of our windows, we saw the girls from Flat 16 sprinting towards the platform in a full-on stampede. They made it. (A bus trip in the wrong direction and an English wedding that had halted all traffic was their excuse.) The ride to Oxford was more scenic than any of us expected. Zoey, an environmental science major also from ...
